What Is Pockets?
Pockets is a fun devotional magazine for children around the ages of 6-12. It comes out 11 times a year (the January/February issue is a combined one), and each issue has a different theme. It has 48 pages and includes stories, games, activities, poems, daily Bible readings, recipes, and more! The art is colorful and fun. A Children's Advisory Board helps keeps Pockets great by evaluating each issue and suggesting themes each year. Pockets is published by The Upper Room.

Who reads Pockets?
Besides children around the ages of 6-12, many parents and Sunday school teachers read Pockets, too.

How long has Pockets been around?
Pockets has been published since 1981.

Why is the magazine called Pockets?
Kids' pockets are usually filled with fun and important things. Pockets magazine is also filled with fun and important things!

Who are the Pockets characters?
Follow these links to meet Pockets, Capp, and Wendell:

Why does Wendell like carrots so much?
Well, he's a rabbit! But Wendell doesn't like only carrots, oh no; he also likes carrot juice, carrot cake, carrot sandwiches, carrot stew, and carrot cookies, among other carrot treats.

Who writes the stories and makes up the games in Pockets?
Each month, the Pockets editors receive in the mail about 300-350 submissions. Writers around the United States, Canada, and other parts of the world send us stories, poems, games, activities, and articles. Out of those 350-350 submissions each month, the editors choose about five stories, three poems, six games, two activities, and one article. It's hard to choose! Who draws the pictures in Pockets?
There are a lot of different people who do illustrations for Pockets. Pockets' art director and the editors get together over the telephone each month to decide which artist should illustrate each story or each page of an upcoming issue. Which artist does each story or page depends on what the story or page is about. For example, some artists are really great at illustrating funny stories or games, while some artists are better at more serious stories, and some are really good at illustrating activities. We also have to make sure that there is a variety of different kinds of art so that Pockets is as interesting as possible.

How can I get my photo printed on the Pocketsful of Friends page or my letter on the Pocketsful of Letters page?
We receive lots of letters and photos from our readers, and we love to read and see each one. Send your photo (along with your name, state-or country-you live in, and hobbies) or your letter (along with your name and where you live) to the address below. Letters and photos selected for publication will appear in Pockets 6-8 months after we receive them.

Can I send a poem or drawing or pet photo or Bible verse or recipe or some jokes to you?
Definitely! We love to get these from our readers. We print poems, drawings, pet photos, recipes, and jokes from our readers on the Club Pages. And each issue we print a different Bible verse suggested by a reader on the Pocketsful of Scripture calendar page. We also have a feature in Pockets called "God in My Life." So you can send us a letter about how God has helped you through something or how God has worked in your life or what God means to you. Another feature, called "Kid 2 Kid," asks a new question each issue that kids like you can send in answers to. Again, we can't print everything we receive, and it will be at least 6-8 months before you see your submission in Pockets if we choose to use it. See the address below.
